A Year in Review--2013

At the end of the year, I choose 20 pictures that show the fun times we had together as a family during the year.  I make them into collages and have the printed into 8x10 size prints for my personal family scrapbook.  I love looking through all of the pictures and remembering the good times.  We were sure busy this year!  I wonder what next year will bring?
Here are the top 20 for 2013

Holiday Break

Holiday breaks are always filled with lots of fun activities such as . . .
sleeping in
eating out
puzzles
movies
baby cousins
dances

Christmas Day

After spending Christmas Eve in Paradise with my parents, we drove home so we could enjoy sleeping in our own beds.  By the time we got home, it was after midnight.  The kids tried to convince me to just go ahead and have our family Christmas then.  I caved and let them open one present before sending them to bed.
In the morning, we enjoyed watching each other open gifts from each other and from Santa.  New clothes, movies, electric cars, indoor basketball hoop, Atari games, survival knife, and new slippers were some of our favorites.
After lunch, we headed back to Paradise to enjoy Christmas dinner with the Chatfields.  It was a wonderful way to enjoy the rest of the holiday--surrounded by family!

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve was spent loving a newborn babe, singing Christmas carols, hitting a pinata, preparing and enjoying great food, opening gifts, and being with family.

Who's Stronger?

Sometimes when the family gets together our love & hugs turn into a boy's wrestling match.  Seth is determined to win, but his dad continues to help him learn that he needs to keep trying.

Somebody had a birthday . . . .
another year older and wiser too!

Grandparents visited from Paradise
Enjoyed Dinner @ Chilli's

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas . . .

How do you get ready for Christmas?

We put up our Christmas tree, find snow, and attend our ward Christmas party, "A Night in Bethlehem"
This is the way to start the season out right.
It snowed in Yuba City--yes, you heard right.  It didn't last very long, but we snapped some pictures to document the event.  It must be getting closer to Christmas if snow is in the air.
Even in Rexburg, Idaho the weather is chilly and you get together with family for milkshakes and a girl's night out.
Oh and we can't forget the traditional family Christmas photos.

Shooting

We have a tradition in my family to always go shooting Thanksgiving morning.  This year we had A LOT of family come to participate.  It was fun to see the kids learn about gun SAFETY & shooting.
I just observed with my earplugs in place!
Chillin' with Gramps!

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving wouldn't be complete without having everyone home--Thanks to Andrea, she made it complete. She hitched a ride with Uncle Ron & his family who were also coming out to spend time with family for Thanksgiving.
Before we headed up to Grandma Ruth's For Thanksgiving dinner, we had to stop by Aunt Leanne's house and see her new babe.  This was Andrea's first time meeting her new cousin, Caroline.
We enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving meal together with the Chatfield family.  Because there were so many of us we had to split up into eating groups . . . .
Andrea is now18 (officially an adult), but the cousins still wanted her at the kid table with them!
The day after Thanksgiving we had my brother's family down to YC for a visit.
Wow, kids sure grow up when you're not looking!

Marching Band

River Valley High School Marching Band
Once again, Seth decided to try something new.  When school started he signed up for marching band.  Since he had experience with music (piano lessons for 7 years) the band teacher welcomed him into the class and gave him the mallets to play.  What are mallets you ask?  Well, it basically looks and plays like a xylophone.  He had a lot of fun going to band competitions and playing at football games on Friday nights.  One weekend we were able to go and see one of his compeitions--so much fun!

Fall Leaves + Pumpkins = Halloween

You can't truly enjoy the fall without finding some autumn leaves to play in.  We spent a Sunday afternoon in Paradise and the grand kids helped Grandpa Rick rake some leaves in his back yard--of course after the pile was high enough, everyone had a chance to "Jump In".
After enjoying the leaves and having dinner,
 it was pumpkin carving time!
On Halloween, our ward hosted a "Harvestival".
There were games, food, and a lot of costumes to see and enjoy. As you can see, Seth had too much fun with face painting--(maybe because the young women were hosting that booth),  Kiana had a lot of fun being "Thing1" and posing for Halloween pictures, and I kept busy at the witch's brew booth--(aka apple cider & dry ice).

BYU Idaho or Bust!

Well, we're off with lots of love from home on our car windows . . .

Rexburg just got a whole lot cooler

Y.C. will miss you

You Rexburg boys better watch out!

BYUI or Bust

Thank you Abby for such a great send off.  It was fun to see other drivers read our windows as we drove a long 11+ hours.
We also had awesome driving companions--Laurie & Julia!
Our first day in Idaho we spent time touring the campus, buying books, finding classrooms, and taking pics of the awesome campus. How great it is to have a temple so close to campus.
It was also a lot of fun to see how much the campus had grown since I was there MANY years ago (formally known as Rick's College). Who would have known . . . . like mother like daughter.
The second day we took the girls food shopping and went sightseeing in Idaho Falls.  We were even caught in a sudden hail storm--that's Idaho for you.  Good times!
It's beautiful here--can't wait to bring the rest of the family to visit!
On the third day we moved the girls into their new apartment and said our good byes . . . .
Good Luck Andrea--We love you!

Family Visit

My sister and her daughter came out for a visit to California.
We had a lot of fun--especially with Baby Brooklyn!
Everyone wanted a turn to hold the cutie.

Cute pig tails!

We also had one last family dinner before Andrea
headed off to college.
Love this girl!

Kiana's 12th Birthday

Once again, the first day of school was Kiana's Birthday!
We tried to make the best of it!
Andrea wrote a Birthday note on the driveway for her.
Her primary teacher brought her a birthday balloon.
We made sure she had presents to open
before school, after school, and later that night.
Receiving a jar of pixie sticks, cute earrings, a volleyball & net, new pajamas, and a new water bottle put a smile on her face.
She also got to decorate her own bubble gum cake!
The weekend after her birthday we had a family party up in Paradise.  Lots of family came to celebrate Kiana turning 12!
Besides her fancy bubble gum cake, Kiana also requested a carrot cake--one of her favorites!
