TREK

"They Believed, We Believed"
"If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth." Mark 9:23

Aaron, Andrea, & I were all able to participate in a Youth Trek Event. This is when you are able to reenact some of the experiences that the pioneers faced when crossing the plains and arriving in Utah during the 1840-1850's. All the youth ages 14-18 were assigned families, asked to dress in clothing from the time period, and participate in helping their new families pull a hand cart for three days. Aaron and I were able to be a "Ma & Pa" and were assigned to help our family make the 3 day trek across steep, dusty hills.

It was AMAZING!!!

Here is a picture of our Trek family!

Here are "Pa" and the boys! (Shawn, Braxton, Elliott & Tanner)

Here are "Ma" and the girls! (Brianna, Aubrey, & Sarah)

We were able to participate in many experiences while on Trek. One experience was walking in memory of a pioneer family who actually made the trek across the plains. We walked in memory of the Barlow family who left Nauvoo in June of 1848 bringing 3 small children with them and then giving birth to a 4th while crossing the plains. They arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on the 23rd of September 1848.

"Theirs was a tremendous undertaking. Ours is a great continuing responsibility. They laid the foundation. Ours is the duty to build on it. They marked the path and led the way. Ours is the obligation to enlarge and broaden and strengthen that path until it encompasses the whole earth." President Gordon B. Hinckley

Andrea had a great time. Even though we were in different families and companies we were still able to see her and know that she was also having a great experience. Andrea is the one in the cute blue/creme checkered outfit she made out of a bed skirt. Thank you Grandma Leila for making a cute apron to match! :)

"Today is a new day, with new trials, new trouble, and new temptations, but hundreds of thousands of Latter-day Saint youth strive constantly and serve diligently, true to the faith as their counterparts of earlier years so nobly did."
President Thomas S. Monson

July 4th

Fourth of July this year was very relaxing. We stayed at home, had a BBQ with the grandparents, put up our new trampoline, and set off sparklers in the backyard. Ahhh, I love the easy going days of summer!
